Whenever you are involved in a construction project, you will have to ensure that you have the right equipment to complete the job. Buying or hiring the equipment may be one of the first tasks to arrange for a job, but you will also need to think about how your equipment will reach the construction site. Some items may be able to be driven to where they are needed, but others may be too slow or not suitable for driving on the public road. If you can't drive your equipment to the site, then you need to find a way to get the equipment where it is needed. One of the most efficient means of transporting heavy plant equipment is by using plant trailers.

What are plant trailers?

Plant trailers are used to move ultra heavy-duty construction equipment and plant from one location to another. Plant trailers are available in a wide range of configurations for different types of plant equipment, such as low loaders or mowers, or they can be custom-built to accommodate your unique requirements. Commonly available plant trailers include:

  • Flatbed trailers
  • Excavator trailers
  • Roller trailers
  • Mobile office trailers
  • Generator trailers
  • Sign trailers

What should your plant trailer look like?

When you want to find the right plant trailers for your needs, then there are at least three questions that you need to ask before making a purchase.

Is there the right suspension? Plant equipment can often be extremely heavy, and having a suitable load-bearing suspension to evenly spread the load is vital for safe transportation.

Are there suitable tie-off points? When you are moving heavy loads, then you must be certain that they are not going to shift position while they are being transported. Every load you move must be firmly tied or chained in place to ensure it is secure. To attach those chains, you will need plenty of tie-off points around the trailer, and they will need to be located in places that are convenient for the type of plant you are moving.

Is the body durable? Plant trailers endure a lot of rough handling. You must look for plant trailers that have a strong floor and body that isn't going to require frequent maintenance to keep it operational. Choosing plant trailers with a pre-galvanised sheet construction is often the most effective way to ensure a long trailer life without requiring constant repairs to be carried out.
